Updating this post 24 hours later after I've got my Mario Kart World Switch 2 Bundle from my local Gamestop. I live in a small town, but even so we were around 50 or so waiting for the store to open to get our hands on our pre-order. So when I finally got my Switch 2, I also took the time to buy Cyberpunk 2077, Bravely Default and a Pro Controller. And now today, I also received my next order from Amazon which was everything I was still missing to complete my set, which was Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, the Switch 2 Camera, a 256GB Micro SD Express (for now), and a screen protector. I now have the Switch 2 starter pack completed (only Yakuza 0 is missing for me, and it should be here next week).
In any case, about the system itself, once I did the initial configurations, I've started testing lot of stuff with it. First, I've redeemed the Mario Kart World Tour code, and while I was on the snappy new eShop, I took the time to get a few more things. Mainly Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, Fast Fusion, the GameCube app, and the Upgrade Pack for both Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. While everything was downloading and updating, I was starting to think which games from my Switch 1 I wanted to have on the Switch 2 (since I'm not throwing away my Switch 1 and its 2TB Micro SD that contains thousand of games on it). Besides the two Zelda games already mentionned, I knew I would want to continue my Pokemon Journey on Switch 2, so I brought all my main Pokémon games on it (Let's Go Eevee, Sword, Brilliant Diamond, Legends Arceus and Violet), while keeping the others versions on the Switch 1. I then upgraded to the Switch 2 version some games I will surely play for a long time, mainly Fantasy Life i (which I've just started on Switch 1) and No Man's Sky.
One thing I've quickly realized is that unlike the Switch 1 where I was able to keep ALL of my games installed at all time, it will not be possible to do it at all with the Switch 2. After only 18 games installed, I've already wasted 150GB of spaces. And those were relatively small games. Yakuza 0 next week will be above 40GB, and Split Fiction, which I've wish listed, is above 60GB. That's just crazy. Even when 2TB Micro SD Express will be out, I will run out of space really quickly. I think I will need to reevaluate how I keep my games on the Switch 2, and only keep the best of the best for me available at all time while deleting the rest. It's something that was impossible for me to do on Switch 1, so it's already giving me some gaming anxiety.
As for the games, except for Mario Kart World which I've played with my wife until we've completed Rainbow Road, it was mostly testing a lot of small things here and there. I think I was spending maybe 10-15 minutes on each game just to see them in action. The Switch 1 to Switch 2 upgrades were what I was interrested in the most. I tested the new Zelda Notes in Breath of the Wild, and now I want to go back to the game since there's a way to find all the Koroks without painfully following a map online. As for Tears of the Kingdom, that I didnt find the courage to start yet, I now want to experience it with the boosted resolution and framerate. Doing all those things also allowed me to play around the Linked Switch system and the Virtual Game Cards transfer between the two, and Nintendo did things exactly how I wanted. Both my Switch 1 and Switch 2 can play all their loaded games offline without any worry and I can swap the Virtual Cards easily between Systems. And finally the hardware itself. The screen, even being LCD, is really quite bright and colorful. I both have my Switch 2 and OLED Switch 1 opened at the same time side by side, and while yes, the OLED is a little bit better, its really not by much unlike the Switch 1 LCD screen which was really washed out.
So far, I'm really loving the Switch 2, except for the storage problem. But all of that is just a preliminary opinion. Now it's the week-end, where I will finally be able to stop fiddling around with it, and actually game on it for real. I will have more things to say about it in the future so stay tuned...
