Goodbye Switch 2, you'll just be an accessory to the Switch 1 now for me...

After the latest September Direct, I think I just came to a realization, or I've reached a breaking point because I think this is something that I was walking toward little by little ever since the Switch 2 release. I think I'm just done with the Switch 2, I don't feel much joy anymore collecting for it. Little reminder that I think I've talked in the past. When I bought the the original Switch 8 years ago, I've told to myself that the Switch will be my last gaming generation, that I will go all out, but I will only collect for it and nothing else, and then be done with it once it's over.  And I've succeded in doing so.  Didnt bought anything else gaming wise except Switch stuff.  No Playstation, no Steamdeck, no nothing. Now, when the Switch 2 came around, I was not sure what to do with it. The new Virtual Game Card system along all those Switch 1 upgrades on Switch 2 made me feel like the Switch 2 was just the continuation of the Switch 1, so at first, I decided to continue my collecting. But the more I play with my Switch 2, the less I'm interrested with it and just go back to my Switch OLED.

I think it's a lot of little things. Main culprit here are the insane price this generation. I will admit it, I think I've reached a point in my life where I can't see myself spending so much for video games, and that's coming from someone who bought over 1000 titles for the Switch 1. When I saw in the latest Direct that Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 will be CAN $100 (plus taxes), something broke inside me. I love Nintendo, but I feel that they crossed a line where I can't support it anymore. Also, the DLC for Donkey Kong Bananza, already here 2 months after the game release for an extra CAN $30, it truly feels like cut content for a game that already had an high price. Of course, there's also the whole Game-Key Card which kinda kill the point of collecting physically. And then there's some 3rd party games where there's not even upgrade path between the Switch 1 version and Switch 2 version and ask you to rebuy the whole game. Many Square-Enix and Sega games come to mind, but also smaller company games I truly love like Disgaea 7 and Ys X Nordics, which will get improved version on Switch 2, but you'll have to rebuy the game a second time.

In today economy, this is truly not something I can afford anymore. Plus, when I check back to my Switch 1 collection, I have a backlog that will surely last until the end of my life to be frank. The Gaming Magic I had when I was all in with the Switch 1 is just not here anymore with the Switch 2. So instead of continuing wasting my money on it, I think it's time to cut my losses and just finish my Switch 1 collection and be done with it. It doesnt mean I'm getting rid of my Switch 2, it will now be a perfect accessory for my Switch 1, where I'll be able to enjoy some games with better fps and loading time when playing on the Switch 2. The thing though is that I will not buy any extra content or game if it's not also playable on the Switch 1 too. Like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom recently, playing on the Switch 2 with Zelda Notes was perfect for me to truly complete both games 100%. But then I was able to transfer my save back on Switch 1, and I still had 100%. But the Star Crossed World DLC for Kirby and the Forgotten Land recently, it's something I regret buying now since the content is exclusive to the Switch 2.

I still think the Switch 1 has a few years left in it so I'm not done spending money on it, but it's really time to say goodbye to the Switch 2 as a console I will focus on for the future. It will truly only be an accessory for the Switch 1 now...
