Super Mario Galaxy 2 - 242 Stars

What I did in the game: 242 Stars collected.

The One Picture I have taken: Inside the Starship, with the Stars counter visible.

Well, here we here, the now infamous re-release of Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 on Switch. The price for the physical collection was CAN $100, so since I already had the 3D All-Stars Collection, I decided to waste as little money as I could on it, and just bought Super Mario Galaxy 2 digitally. It was still too much money for this single release that I bought back on Wii U for $20. But I still wanted this one on my Switch, so I bite the bullet. And well, if you forget all about the controversy around the pricing, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is still one amazing 3D platformer. One could say amongst the best out there.

And it was also the first time I truly 100% the game. I didnt bought it back then on Wii, and even though I bought it on Wii U, I only did the 120 initial Stars and stopped when it was the Green Stars (only because I was more focused on my 3DS during that era, so I didnt had the motivation to complete it on my Wii U). I was excited to see what many consider one of the hardest Super Mario challenge in the game after getting all 241 previous Stars alongside 9999 Star Bits. The so-called "Perfect Run", where you need to complete the entire Grand Master Galaxy without checkpoint and with only 1 Hit Point. Well, to be frank, I was kinda disappointed. At first, the harder Yoshi section made me scared, but once you get the hang of it, the rest is 100% identical to the standard run, and there's only 2 spots where you have a chance of getting hit. The 4th section with the circle waves, and the final section when you're battling all those Hammer and Boomerang Bros. Besides that, it was not so bad.

Still I'm glad to have finally put to check off this Mario game from my list finally. I still think that I prefer the first Super Mario Galaxy overall, as I felt it was just a more complete experience. But, I have to admit that if you're just searching pure platforming with more challenges, the second one might be more to your taste. Both are masterpiece anyway. So if the price is not something that bothers you, those are still worth playing today. Note that I've played this one on the Switch 1 and it looked incredible. I've heard you get 4K graphics on Switch 2, but I didnt tested it myself, I was more than satisfied with the Switch 1 experience, so I was just too lazy to transfer it to the Switch 2.
