Here we go again! Another Trails game into the backlog. This is the end of of the trilogy that started with Trails through Daybreak and I believe it is the 13th game in the series (lets see, 3 Sky games, 2 Crossbell, 4 Cold Steel, Reverie and 3 with this trilogy, so yeah, it's the 13th one). I wasnt sure if I would ever start this one because of the lack of Trails in the Sky and the first two Cold Steel games in english on Switch...BUT now that Falcom are remaking the Sky trilogy, and that XSeed/Marvelous are restarting bringing their old Falcom stuff (so we might have a chance on localizing the Japan only Cold Steel 1 & 2), I might have to start this sooner than later.
As for this one, as long as NISA keeps putting their Switch 2 games on Game-Key card, while also releasing a full physical on Switch 1, I'll continue to pick the Switch 1 version instead, even with lower performance. If only they could just release an upgrade pack, but no. I don't know what happened with NISA with the Switch 2. They were amongst the best when it comes to physical version of niche games, and now it's just Game-Key Card...oh well...

I didn't know you were a Trails fan, that's great. I started with Trails in the Sky on PSP, then Cold Steel on VITA, but haven't played much since, though I did get the Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. On the Falcom side I've been playing more Ys, so I'm excited for Ys Memoire Celceta coming in February. Though Switch still needs Ys 1+2, Ys 6, & 7 and Falcom needs to remake Ys V so we can play it in English. Though some of the classic Ys games are already on Switch based on the original versions. In fact the first time I played Ys was 1+2 on Wii. They could even release the SNES ports on Nintendo Classics.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I can be called a Trails fan yet, as like you I've first played it on PSP, but gave up on it, thinking I would go back to it eventually...and I never did. I tried to start the Crossbell duology, but as soon as it started to cross-over with Sky, I felt like I was missing a part of the experience, so I gave up again. I'm also more a Ys guys, but I truly wish to play all the Trails games eventually. Maybe it will be my retirement project :)
DeleteI also wish we will get a proper console of Ys VI, one that use the sprites, and not the ugly 3D model of the Konami PS2 version (I've also played the PSP one, and it was atrocious). I would also like a Eternal/Complete version of Ys I & II, but right now we have at least the PC-88 and MSX2 version of 1-2-3 on Switch, and Edia have acquired the right for the Pc-Engine version too, which I hope we will see in 2026.
