So, before Pokémon Day is even here, The Pokémon Company dropped a bomb ahead of time. Next week, they will release Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen on the eShop. You read that right, not on a NSO app, on the actual eShop, like the Virtual Console of old. Like they did with the 3DS VC Pokémon games, you'll be able to trade Pokémon via wireless communication, but not online. What still need confirmation though is if it will be Home compatible (wer're still waiting for compatibility with Legends Z-A). So basically with this, we will have two remake of Gen 1 on Switch (the other being Let's Go). I don't know, I would have prefered maybe HeartGold and SoulSilver, but maybe they're testing the water with those and they will be available down the line? Or maybe not since the GBA games were the only one that could not be played on either the 3DS or the Switch (the GB and GBC were all available through VC, and the DS games can be played via backward compatibility). In any case, those are costly purchases for GBA games, $CAN 30 each, and obviously since I'm on a quest ever since X/Y to complete them all by myself by buying both versions, here they are, preloaded and ready to be played next week.

Only thing I'm concerned about is the most we would be able to complete in FireRed and LeafGreen is the Kanto Pokedex, since nearly all the Hoenn Pokémon and much of the Johto Pokémon are unavailable in those games. Of course it might depend on Pokémon Coliseum and XD, which can have access to Johto and Hoenn Pokemon, but I'm not sure if they will be transferable between each other, especially since those are on NSO. At least on 3DS, you could get all 151 Pokémon by having Red, Blue and Yellow, and a mix of Gen 1 trading could get you all 251 Pokemon with Gold, Silver and Crystal. I will wait to see how it's implemented on Pokémon Day, or just decide completion is completing the Sevii Islands and getting the Kanto Diploma.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing. I guess it will also depends on how they will implement Home with it. If it's a one-way to Home, then we will be stuck, but if we can go both way, then the National Dex would be possible to complete. We'll see in a few days...
