Pokémon FireRed - Pokédex 215/215

What I did in the game: Pokédex: 215/215 (max possible for now. It's also a living dex).

The One Picture I have taken: Trainer Card.

And I'm done. After 1 main playthrough on FireRed and 2 quick playthrough of LeafGreen, I've finally reached my goal of creating a complete Living Pokédex with every Pokemon catchable between those 2 games. As the title said, as of right now, this number is 215. As soon as the games got released, I was racing as much as I could to reach that goal. FireRed was my main game (since there was no "blue" version) and was installed on the Switch 2. LeafGreen my secondary version and was on my Switch Oled. It was also the first time for me going through those games (my Pokémon story is quite weird. Played Red/Blue back then on GB, than Ruby/Sapphire on GBA, and after that, skipped all the way through to X/Y, where I finally started creating my Living Pokédex for real thanks to Pokémon Bank and now Home). But fortunately, almost everything is the same as Gen 1, except for the Sevii Islands, a set of seven new islands you can explore. The first 3 are added to the main story after Cinnabar Island Gym, and the last 4 are post-game contents, and where you'll start getting anything beyond the first 150 Pokémon (almost all of them are Johto except 3).

And going back to a previous gen, I realized how much improvement we've got over the years. HM Move that waste a slot, really limited Exp sharing, no way to easily control IV/EV/Nature, trading one by one without the use of Bank/Home (though I've heard there was a GameCube app back then, Pokémon Box I think, which did the same thing, but obviously, it's not available here) or even having access to our own in-game box during trade. I know people have a lot of nostalgia for older Pokémon games, but personally, I'm happy of the way they've evolved to remove as much pain as possible. And while the first 150 were as straightforward as before, once you reach post-game, you'll then have to also breed, raise friendship, have trade evolution with items (in very limited quantity, so don't waste them). So it slowed me down a little. The last part that was a pain was the 3 Legendary Beasts. Once you reach post game, one of the 3 beast will start roaming Kanto for you to catch. But only 1, and it all depends on your starter choice. So as you can guess, to get all 3, that means you need to do 3 playthroughs. Which is what I've did. After 1 playthrough of FireRed and LeafGreen, I was at 214/215. Then I erased my LeafGreen save, speedrunned the game in 7 hours or so only to catch the final beast. I hated that.

In any case, why did I do a Living Dex? Because I have a feeling they will also rerelease Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, and since Home compatibility for FireRed/LeafGreen will be one way only, there won't be an easy way to get a complete National Dex with the Gen 3 games. So if RSE really do release, I will just trade in rotation one Pokémon at a time. Though if I hated the 3 Legendary Beasts in FireRed/LeafGreen, I'm scared of what's coming in Emerald. You see, you can get the 3 Johto starters in Emerald, but only when reaching post-game and only if you have a complete Hoenn Dex. So if you want all 3, that means you need to replay the game to completion 3 times! That's just crazy. And what's sad about all this is that if we would have access to Colosseum, we wouldnt need to do that, because all 3 Johto starters AND all 3 Legendary Beasts are available there, with a way to send them to Gen 3 games. And both Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness are confirmed for the NSO GameCube app, but in the small prints of the announcement for XD (during Pokémon Day), you can read that you won't be able to send Pokémon from the GameCube game to any others Pokémon games. What a wasted opportunity. So yeah, if they do release RSE, my plan would be to transfer everything to FireRed, then restart Emerald, trade in rotation the 200 Hoenn Pokémon in my playthrough 2 and 3, and then complete the National Dex in both FireRed and Emerald. We'll see if I have the courage to do it, because right now, there's nothing announced, so 215 is the best you can get in Gen 3 on Switch.

Oh yeah, one last thing about those version of FireRed and LeafGreen. They were nice enough to add the Event Tickets for catching Ho-Oh, Lugia and Deoxys. And supposedly, there was a Roar Glitch with the 3 Legendary Beasts in the original release that could made 2 of them disappear forever which was fixed. I can't tell for that last one, as I was using my Master Ball to catch all 3. Anyway, that's it for my playthrough of FireRed and LeafGreen. Below, you can find a video I did showing the complete Living Dex.
