Rendering Ranger: R2 - Game beaten.

What I did in the game: Game beaten.

The One Picture I have taken: Final Boss killed.

I'm currently in a curating process with my Switch games. I've created a folder with tons of games that I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep or not, and I've been trying them all at rapid-fire pace. One of them was this game, Rendering Ranger: R2. But I ended up beating it since I just couldn't stop. It seems there's a big history behind this game, something about being one of the rarest Super Famicom game or something. I don't know everything, but it seems Limited Run Games was able to resurrect it. Say what you will about LRG, but for the past year or two, they managed to bring back a lot of really obscure retro games and made them available legally. Basically this is games plays a lot like Turrican, but with pre-rendered graphics (like in Donkey Kong Country). I thought it was more a Contra game at first, but starting stage 2, you begin to explore more and more the stages, and you'll also have a lot of shmup stages. The game is split in half between those run-and-gun and shmup levels. And if at first I wasn't really impressed with the graphics (first stage is really "brown"), the more you progress, the better they are, and there's a few really impressives scenes (like when you get the ship, and you see it spinning. For a SNES game, it was quite cool to watch). The game also was quite easy at first, but suddenly near the game, a flip is switched it seems because it becomes quite brutal without warning, with a lot of boss rush, both as with the spaceship and the character on foot. Thankfully, you can cheat your way to victory a little by using the rewind feature. Overall, it was quite a satisfying 16-bit experience, and a cool piece of history to discover.
