Resident Evil requiem - All Challenges completed

What I did in the game: All Challenges completed.

The One Picture I have taken: Challenges screen.

It's been a looooong while since I've jumped into one of the "hyped" game of the moment, but I don't know, there was something about Resident Evil requiem that was calling me, even if I'm not the biggest horror game fan. I've resisted one week after release before I just couldn't resist and pulled the trigger on it, even if the price was kinda high...but my God was it worth it! Before I start, you have to know that my history with the series was stopped a long time ago. When I was a teenager, I was playing them all. 1, 2, 3, Code Veronica, REmake. Even as a non-horror fan who hated zombie games even more, there was something magical in that survival horror genre, exploring every corners while trying to manage your inventory. But then, 4 came out, and I know for almost everyone it's the GOAT, but when I bought it on the GameCube back then, it made me quit the series since it was not what I was searching for in a Resident Evil game anymore. And when I saw 5 and 6 were even more about action than survival horror, I just never looked back. I did buy Resident Evil Revelations on 3DS because it was one of the big game there, but never ended up playing it. And I saw that 7 went back to its survival horror roots, but I didnt had the console to try it myself.

Then came 9 (requiem), which seemed to gap both genre of Resident Evil games in one game, even bringing back Leon as a playable character, the one who started the action-crazed RE games. I became really curious of how they would pull this off. And pulled it they did! The game beautifully indeed splits into two horror genres, the survival with Grace, and the action with Leon. When playing as Grace, you have to manage your inventory and ressources carefully, and each encounter can be deadly, like in the old games I loved. But when you play as Leon, you then become a one man army killing hundred of zombies like it's nothing with a big arsenal of weapons. And the fact that we were alternating between those two styles made me finally appreciate the action part of Resident Evil (even if I was more a fan of Grace section to be frank). I was so addicted to the game that I did 3 complete playthrough in one week to complete all the Challenges, and I was never bored.

First playthrough was on standard (modern) difficulty where I was discovering everything for the first time, exploring everything to find all the files and Mr. Racoon statues. It took me a good 15 hours to complete the game there (as I was searching every corners of the map and managed to find all the files by myself, and only missing 2 Mr. Racoon statues by the time I completed the game). The challenge was just right, and I died a good number of times. After completing this run, I was getting a lot of CP from the Challenges completed. And it's one of my favorite thing in gaming, when achievements do serve a purpose. In Resident Evil requiem, you use those CP to unlock many of the bonus and cheats in the game. I then bought an infinite knife for Grace, a Rocket Launcher for Leon (not infinite, but you could skip one boss battle with it), and started a playthrough on Easy, while trying to complete the game under 4 hours, without using healing item and without getting any blood with Grace. This was such a fun run, and by doing all that, I got enough points to unlock infinite ammo and infinite Rocket Launcher, so I finally started my last run on Insanity with all of that, and my God, Insanity would be brutal without the infinite ammo. Even with all of those, I was getting killed left and right, as most things would be one-hit kill (with Grace in particular), but being able to destroy everything in one-shot yourself too was such an amazing feeling, and I loved the new items and enemies placement, which gave me tons of unexpected surprises. I even managed to do the Last Puzzle in that difficulty, and let's just say that not killing one zombie in that conveyor belt belt section with Grace was really a nightmare (if you know, you know. Do it on easier difficulty if you can). And with that, I was 100% done with the game.

So yeah, this game is what gaming is all about, just pure unaltered fun from beginning to end, and you unlock so much stuff just by playing the game. Nothing was painful, everything was done seamlessly, Capcom really pulled a Masterpiece here. And on Switch 2, the game runned so amazingly well. I couldnt believe this was running above 30FPS at all (I believe it's mostly 60, with maybe some dips on crazier moments) and how beautiful it looks. The RE Engine is really doing wonder! And while I don't think I'll go and experience everyting between 4 and 9 now (though I do want to play 2 Remake eventually), I was so very happy to have experienced this one, and I can say with confidence that this game is not overhyped at all. Everything positive said about it is totally worth it. Play it!
